Friday afternoon we took Penny to the playground and she went down the slides by herself for the first time! She would never let us let go of her before, but by the end of this trip she could slide down, run around to the stairs, climb up, and slide back down again all by herself. This was due in large part to peer pressure. We met a nice little girl named Stella and her mom. Stella is also 18 months old, and an old pro at sliding by herself (they live just down the street from the playground). She would even climb up to the very high slide and go down on her tummy backwards! While I wasn't keen to have Penny try that, she did seem to catch on that Stella could do something that she couldn't and therefore she ought to give this sliding thing a try. By the end of the time there, she was navigating the playground all by herself and Tray and I could just stand back and watch.
