April 29 Doctors Appointment

We went to the doctor today for a checkup. Nothing new to report really. I didn't make the five pound goal - only three, but the doctor says that's ok. He says looking at the two of us this is not going to be a huge kid anyway so not to worry.

The child is a mover and shaker. I swear the baby moves all the time. I tried doing a kick count where you have I believe two hours to feel ten distinct movements. It took 4 minutes. It is almost constant movement in there - especially when I am trying to go to sleep! The baby continues to be really fiesty. At today's visit I agreed to let a med student use the Doppler to hear the baby's heartbeat. He was new so he was moving it around awhile trying to find the right spot and the baby kicked the the end of it twice. It was very funny. The baby has also been known to kick anything I have balanced on my belly, such as a plate, my laptop, a novel...Catfish Ted. :)

After our visit Tray took me to TCBY for some frozen yogurt. Good stuff.

Well, I am now in my third trimester so visits will be every two weeks from now on. We start our "how to have a baby" classes in two weeks as well - Tray's real excited about that. Ha!

Random Updates

My secondary gestational diabetes test was also negative, so hurray!
Also, today we worked on the nursery quite a bit getting all the carpet shreds and dust up. We also repainted the baseboards. As some of you may remember, the upstairs room used to be (prior to our tenure) a lipstick red with black trim. This required 8 (yes, 8) coats of primer and paint to adequately cover. Well, we left the carpet down when we painted over the trim and so when the carpet came up there was a small strip of black running around the baseboards. Also, one of the roofing guys dropped a hammer through our ceiling which I patched some time ago, but the patch needed painting to match the rest of the ceiling. So that's the sort of stuff we were doing today. That, and sanding off one of our closet doors where NIN was still visible because I'd just painted over it (8 times) instead of scraping off the puffy paint used to write it. Sigh. I mean, Nine Inch Nails are an ok band, but the previous occupant of that room must have really liked them.
I can't wait to get our crib and rocking chair/ottoman. It will be so beautiful and I can't wait to have everything all ready for our baby to come home with us. It will be so nice to have our own little family. I really look forward to it being the three of us. I can't believe there are only about 3 months left! The time is flying!

24-weeks Appointment

Yesterday, we went in to the doctor again. This was an appointment to check me out to make sure there were no ill-effects from a minor surgery I had six years ago. Everything looked good and we got to take a peek at the baby too. This is a profile shot of the face. It looks like the baby is blowing a bubble, but that is just a piece of the cord that floated into view.

I gained two more pounds since the last visit, but the doctor told me to try to gain five before the next visit in three weeks! I don't plan on going out of my way to do that, but I will try to eat a little bit more at my regular meals. I just don't see the point in eating, say, a half a pizza per meal just to reach some magic weight number. I don't think that's healthy.

We still haven't gotten the nursery ready. It is completely cleaned out now, though - even the closet! So, it is just a matter of pulling up the carpet and putting down the floating laminate wood floor we bought. It's a dark wood, and I think it will look really nice. We have not heard from the store where we ordered our crib and glider to say that they have arrived, but I would think we'll hear something in the next week or so. We don't have anywhere to put them yet anyway, so it's ok. I can't wait to get it all put together though.

In other household news, Tray has almost finished painting the stairwell that has been unfinished forever. And, he decided to restain the stair posts a darker color, which then got stain all over the board the rails sit on, so that now has to be repainted, but I think it is really just a day's work. I don't help out on that though because the smell is too strong.

The other big project I would like to do before the baby is born is to swap out our downstairs bedroom with the upstairs bedroom so our room will be upstairs with the nursery. That way, we'll be upstairs with the baby and guests will stay downstairs. It's a pretty sweet deal for the visitors since you'll have your own attached bathroom. It does require the moving of two beds though, so the task of helping Tray do that may await future visitors to our house. Be forewarned. :)

Mullet the Cat

While technically not "baby" related, this is fish-cat related. My oldest, furry baby turned 18 years old today. Happy Birthday Mullet! - and may we all age as gracefully as you have.
